London RO: Racism and Our Labour Movement (In Person – September 22nd and 23rd, 2024)

Racism and Our Labour Movement: Understanding Historical Legacies and Addressing Current Challenges
In this two-day course, members will review key moments and often forgotten histories of racial exclusion in Canada’s labour movement. Members will explore contemporary manifestations of anti-Black racism and racism in the labour market and our labour movement. We will reflect on how the persistence of such racism impacts racialized workers and their communities and also undermines our collective capacity to advance social democracy, social justice and economic liberation of the working class. To win for workers we must build solidarity through racial justice. Participants will discuss how racialized trade unionists can organize and mobilize to advance racial justice and how white/non-racialized trade unionists can support, be allies and collaborators in efforts for racial justice. Participants will be connected to important groups and initiatives advancing racial justice at various levels and make an action plan for themselves on advancing the work of racial justice in their own life, in their union, and in society at large.

Racism and Our Labour Movement is an Introductory (Basic) course with no pre-requisite.
 
This in-person course will be delivered as a two day course at our PSAC London Regional Office (244 Pall Mall Street, Suite 401, London ON).  Please read the date and time carefully.
Sunday, September 22, 2024 – 9:30am to 4:30pm
Monday, September 23, 2024 – 9:30am to 4:30pm

Upon successful completion of the course, members will be reimbursed as per approved policy.

Loss of Salary: Eligible loss of salary reimbursement will be paid to members attending the Racism and Our Labour Movement course during hours in which they were scheduled to work. Any eligible loss of salary will be reimbursed upon confirmation of full attendance and completion of the course and in accordance with the applicable PSAC policy.
