PSAC has begun negotiations for over 1000 of its members currently working at Casino Woodbine. This set of negotiations is critical, as expansion plans are currently underway by the employer to turn the casino into an entertainment resort, expanding PSAC Local 533’s membership to over 2500 workers.
“We are happy to see that Great Canadian Entertainment is investing over a $1 billion in this project, but we want to make sure that the workers also see improvements from this expansion,” states Craig Reynolds, PSAC Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President. “We need to ensure that the local community shares in the benefits of this project and that begins with making sure that these are good jobs.”
Negotiations began on February 22, 2023 and will continue on March 20th, with the current collective agreement expiring on March 31, 2023.
Priorities for the workers include a new agreement that addresses the skyrocketing cost of living and good benefits for all the new employees that will be hired.
As the casino expands into a massive entertainment resort, PSAC welcomes the hundreds of new members joining our union and we commit to securing the best possible contract for these workers.
We will continue to focus on improving working conditions in all the various departments and encourage workers to get involved by contacting your PSAC Toronto Regional Office, accessing our education opportunities on our webpage and following us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
