PSAC Ontario Regional Council stands in solidarity with PSAC 901 Unit 1 members in their bargaining efforts with Queen’s University.
Representing 2,000 graduate teaching assistants, teaching fellows, and research assistants, PSAC 901 has been on strike since March 10, 2025, due to the University’s refusal to offer fair compensation and benefits. Despite the urgency of the situation, Queen’s administration has failed to bargain fairly, and the strike continues to disrupt teaching and important research at Queen’s.
PSAC 901 members are facing low wages and funding that is inadequate to cover basic living costs. The financial strain on these workers directly impacts the quality of teaching, grading, and research provided. By dismissing PSAC 901’s demands for fair compensation, the administration is jeopardizing not only the livelihood of graduate workers but also the quality of education at Queen’s University.
We call on the administration to resume negotiations immediately and reach an equitable collective agreement that ensures fair wages and dignified working conditions. We also call on the administration to set a strong example for higher education in Ontario, one that upholds education as a public good, serving society and advancing knowledge for all. The future of Queen’s University, its reputation, and the well-being of its students and workers depend on a fair resolution to this dispute. We stand with PSAC 901 and will continue to support their demands for fair compensation and respect in the workplace.
In Solidarity,
PSAC Ontario Regional Council Members
