The Sisters in Spirit initiative was started by the Native Women’s Association of Canada in 2005. It began as a movement to bring awareness around missing and murdered women and children in Canada, and to share their stories and find ways to address violence against women.
On October 4th of each year, families, survivors, and communities gather in circles to remember our loved ones who never came home. The Sisters in Spirit Vigils are not just events, they are sacred spaces where we honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals (MMIWG2S+).
PSAC Ontario stands in support, solidarity and remembrance of the missing women, children, gender-diverse Indigenous people, their families, and friends, and all those who grieve with the loss of a loved one.
We encourage members to demonstrate your support by bringing your community together by attending a vigil, sharing messages of support and awareness, or by hanging a red dress while holding a moment of silence for those we have lost.
Please visit Sisters in Spirit| Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) to locate a vigil nearest you.
