Crystal Aisha Kerr

Speaker, Writer, Poet, Antiracist Equity Educator and community engagement and development specialist. Recipient of the Viola Desmond Award in 2023; named one of CBC’s Herstory in Black 150 in 2017. Crystal is a first generation Canadian born to Grenadian immigrants.


While Juneteenth is a uniquely American holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the US, its message of freedom and equality has inspired people around the world including right here in Toronto. Many people don’t realize that slavery once existed in Canada – or that it was a critical destination along the Underground Railroad for those seeking freedom.
