Sudbury RO: Local Officers Training (In Person – March 22 and 23, 2025)

This is an introductory course for new Local Officers who need to know how to run a Local. Sessions cover the role of the Local Executive; Local administration, including by-laws and budgets; effective communications and Local meetings; and how the Local can access the wider resources of the PSAC. A major theme throughout the course is the organizing model of unionism and how to put it into practice so as to build a strong union presence at the workplace.

This course is offered over 2 days.

Prerequisite: Talking Union Basics (TUB) or its equivalent.

Participants learn:
• How an effective Local functions;
• Roles and responsibilities of the Local Executive;
• How Executives can work well as a team, engage members, and
• Deal effectively with management.

This basic course is a prerequisite for the Advanced Local Officers Training.

Session 1 – Saturday March 22, 2025 – 9:00am-5:00pm
Session 2 – Sunday March 23, 2025 – 9:00am-5:00pm

Please note that the course is being offered in-person at the PSAC Sudbury Regional Office – 754 Falconbridge Rd, Unit 2, Sudbury, ON.

Upon successful completion of the course, members will be reimbursed as per approved PSAC policy. The course must be completed in its entirety before the per diem is issued.

Loss of Salary: Eligible loss of salary reimbursement will be paid to members attending the Grievance Handling course during hours in which they were scheduled to work. Any eligible loss of salary will be reimbursed upon confirmation of full attendance and completion of the course and in accordance with the applicable PSAC policy.
