2024 PSAC Ontario Local Stewards Training

The 2024 PSAC Ontario Local Stewards Training will take place from October 4-5, 2024, at the Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre (8500 Warden Avenue, Markham).

This two day in-person union education training is primarily focused on building capacities of local stewards for duty to accommodate requests and grievance handling. Participants will complete a condensed version of our 2-day Grievance Handling course and the regular full day of Duty to Accommodate.

Selection of Participants:
Participants will be selected to ensure diversity from across the region, first-time delegates, equity, Component/DCL, union involvement and experience. All Local Stewards in good standing are welcome to register.

Travel:
All travel plans will be made on a case-by-case basis taking into account the participant’s location, the most direct and economical means of travel, reasonable hours of travel and in accordance with the the PSAC Travel Policy. All delegates will need to contact Karuna Dsouza (DSouzaK@psac-afpc.com) to discuss individual requirements.

Personal Vehicles and Mileage:
Travel by personal vehicle requires prior approval. Approval will be granted on a case-by-case basis. Participants who are authorized to drive will be reimbursed according to the PSAC Travel Policy at the current rates at the time of the event. The PSAC will not pay for parking tickets, speeding tickets, 407 or toll charges, transponder fees or any damage to a vehicle not covered by the insurance fees.

In Residence Accommodation:
In order to foster an environment of solidarity and community, the 2024 PSAC Ontario Local Stewards Training is an in-residence experience. This means applicants will stay onsite at the Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre.

The training is scheduled to begin on October 4th. Delegates traveling from outside of Toronto should arrange to arrive in the afternoon of Thursday, October 3rd. The course will adjourn at 5pm on Saturday, October 5th, 2024.

All accommodations will be arranged on your behalf and are based on single occupancy. Room charges and applicable taxes will be directly billed to the PSAC. A deposit will be required upon check-in for incidental room charges. This is normally handled using a personal credit card. If the use of a personal credit card is not possible, please contact Karuna Dsouza (DSouzaK@psac-afpc.com) to discuss alternatives. If you require an advance, please contact Karuna DSouza as soon as possible.

Meals:
Delegates will be reimbursed for meal(s) while in transit on Thursday, October 3rd 2024, and for meal(s) while in transit on Saturday, October 5th 2024. Meal allowances will be paid for the duration of the 2024 PSAC Ontario Local Stewards Training, as no meals will be provided.

Loss of Salary:
Loss of salary will be compensated for any hours that a participant was regularly scheduled to work. With prior approval, loss of salary may be compensated for travel on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, for participants who cannot travel after working hours.
For reimbursement, delegates must have:
– A copy of a recent pay stub;
A copy of a shift schedule for the period of the conference (if a shift worker); and
A completed Leave Without Pay form (where applicable).

Expense Claims:
All delegate expense claims must be submitted electronically through the Member Expense Portal (MEP). The MEP is located on the PSAC Members Portal Website. Expenses must be submitted to PSAC Finance within 90 days following the event.

Paperless Training:
This training will be delivered paperless. All delegates are encouraged to participate in this endeavour by bringing a laptop.

Family Care:
Family Care costs will be reimbursed as per the PSAC Family Care Policy.
