2025 International Women’s Day

Each year we commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8th, to promote gender equality, honour women’s achievements and commit to continuously fight for equal rights. The theme for 2025 is “Accelerate Action”, which focuses on the need for collective action to speed up our work towards gender equality.

Sadly, this comes at a time when human rights are under serious attack. With the election of President Donald Trump, has come an assault on equity that has repercussions for workers across the globe.

Many large international corporations have ended their diversity, equity and inclusion programs, which sought to address the historical and current injustices equity-seeking groups face.

Many of those companies operate here in Canada, such as Meta, Walmart, Amazon, McDonalds and many more. This will have negative impacts for already marginalized groups, including Racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+ and Indigenous women.

This International Women’s Day let us recommit to fighting gender discrimination and work towards a more inclusive world. Please consider joining an International Women’s Day event in your community and reaffirm your commitment to advancing gender equality.

In Solidarity,

Craig Reynolds, PSAC Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President
