
The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA), whose headquarters is situated in Moose Factory, was established through a merger of the Weeneebayko Hospital and James Bay General Hospital.
WAHA serves as an integrated First Nations Regional Health Authority responsible for planning and delivering all health services to communities along the western Ontario shores of the James and Hudson Bays.

Ontario Labour Relations Board Decision is In!
In a decision received by PSAC today, the labour relations board has determined that there will be two bargaining units in the new WAHA. One will be a non-nursing bargaining unit and one will be a registered nursing bargaining unit.
What the Decision Means
All employees in the non-nursing bargaining unit including paramedics, will be represented by PSAC.

PSAC Recognized As Successor Union
On January 5th, 2011 PSAC reached a memorandum of agreement with Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA), Ontario Nurses Association (ONA), Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) that recognizes:
1. PSAC is the successor Union representing all employees of WAHA with the exception of Registered Nurses and Nurses with temporary certificates of registration engaged in a nursing capacity
2. PSAC is the successor Union to SEIU Local 1 for the SEIU Local 1 bargaining unit at the predecessor Weeneebayko Health Ahtuskaywin (WHA)
3. PSAC will continue to represent paramedics. The Labour Board will decide if paramedics are in a separate bargaining unit as requested by PSAC or whether paramedics are in the all employee bargaining unit as described in paragraph 1 above as proposed by the Employer.
