The Canada Industrial Relations Board issued a certificate today to PSAC to represent "all employees of the Blue Water Bridge Authority, excluding office employees, students, temporary employees, supervisors and those above the rank of supervisor."
As a result, PSAC is now legally recognized as the bargaining agent for Blue Water Bridge Authority bargaining unit employees. The Labour Board dismissed the former Association's request for another vote.

Blue Water Bridge Employees Join PSAC!
Employees of the Blue Water Bridge Authority in Point Edward/Sarnia are now members of one of Canada’s largest national Unions, the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC).
In a vote conducted by the Canada Industrial Relations Board on February 23, 2007 the employees, formerly represented by the Blue Water Bridge Employees Association, voted in favour of joining PSAC.
“The PSAC is a good fit for Blue Water Bridge Authority employees”, says Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President Gerry Halabecki. “These new members work alongside Customs Officers located at the Bridge who are already PSAC members.”
The Union’s new bargaining unit at the Bridge Authority will include over 55 toll collectors, custodians, maintenance and currency exchange workers employed by the Authority. PSAC represents large numbers of operational, trades and maintenance workers employed in the federal public sector.
Now that the vote process has concluded, PSAC will issue notice to bargain a collective agreement. In the meantime, the terms and conditions of the existing agreement remain in force until a new agreement is negotiated.
