Anishinabek Police Service Civilians Join PSAC!
On May 18, 2007 Administrative Office Employees of the Anishinabek Police Service (APS) voted, by an overwhelming margin of 16 to 2, in favour of joining the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC).
The twenty civilian employees voted to join PSAC for improved Union representation, job classification and better working conditions.
PSAC reached a first collective agreement in November, 2005 for administrative office employees of the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) Board resulting in significant wage adjustments, a pension plan, commitments to improve health and safety and job classification. NAPS civilians are in the process of voting upon their renewal agreement that will result in an additional 3% wage increase effective April 1, 2008.
APS civilian staff work in detachment and headquarter offices. They provide support for the police services in 14 First Nations Communities in Northern Ontario with a headquarters in Garden River near Sault Ste. Marie.
