Area Council Meeting With NDP MPs
I am pleased to report that our Area Council meeting was extremely successful last night with NDP MPs Irene Mathyssen and Charlie Angus conferring with us for 1 ½ hrs. We were able to talk openly on many issues, our three biggies being: negotiations, DQPS and No Zones.
We expanded Defending Quality Public Service to include the effects bills C-39 and C-46 will have on our members and on farmers in general. Charlie Angus, MP for Timmins & James Bay, was especially interested; he said he would love to make Thunder Bay his “personal project”, as he has traditionally been the Agriculture Critic. And the gov’t can’t afford to lose the Thunder Bay seat. Ideally make it a confidence motion. I have been forwarding him the info I have received lately. His contact is: Angus.C@parl.gc.ca

Saturday March 8th, is International Women's Day
This Saturday I am asking for your help, on behalf of the women of London, to HELP SAVE THE WOMEN'S HEALTH CLINIC
Women's Health Clinic is an outstanding facility which provides an environment that is both physically comfortable and emotionally supportive for women.
Last weekend, I brought my Ontario NDP colleague Andrea Horwath (MPP, Hamilton East) to tour the facility and see the quality care provided by the staff at this remarkable clinic.
During the Ontario provincial election many promises to help were made, but since the election the clinics owners have not received any follow-up on these promises. The clinic is still in very real danger of closing because they do not receive adequate funding.
In a city where an estimated 30,000 people are without a family doctor, we cannot afford to lose a clinic that serves more than 25,000 London area women every year.
I am inviting you to join with me, and Women's Health Clinic co-owner Dr. Elizabeth Smith, for a noon hour rally in front of the clinic to draw attention to the need for government support for this clinic and others like it around the province and across the country.
Where: Women's Health Clinic, 400 Dundas St.
When: 12 noon until 12:30, Saturday March 8th
What: A public rally to draw attention to the situation. Signs, flags, and other demonstrations of support are welcome.
I very much appreciate the help and support each of you have given me in the past. I am asking you now to give a little bit of your time on Saturday to attend this public rally. Please forward this to your friends, family, neighbours and co-workers and invite them to join us.
Sincerely,
Irene Mathyssen

DECEMBER 2ND - LONDON HEALTH AND SAFETY CONFERENCE
The one day health and safety conference held on 2 December 2006 at the PSAC London Regional Office was attended by 17 members from 4 different components, and one Directly Chartered Local. Glen Miller, PSAC Ontario Regional Council Rep for Southwestern Ontario, hosted the event.
Participants received training on two topics; Indoor Air Quality and Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. This was a good opportunity for members from different work sites to exchange information and build on networking skills, which will help when solving health and safety related issues at work.
