First Annual Meeting - November 19
Hello Everyone,
The 1st annual general meeting of PSAC Local 555 which represents all TA's and RA's at UOIT will take place on Friday November 19, 2001 between 10am and 1pm in room J121 of the Simcoe building.
The purpose of this meeting is to approve the proposed bylaws and elect the executives of the local. The proposed bylaws have been attached to this mail for your perusal. The roles of the executives are outlined in the bylaws, so if you are interested in any of the positions, kindly review the bylaws to know the responsibilities of the executives.
I have attached a list of the executive positions to this mail for your convenience.
1) The President;
2) The Vice President;
3) The Secretary;
4) The Treasurer;
5) The Chief Steward.
Please note, since the meeting will be going on during the lunch period, some refreshments will be provided.
A union is only as good as its members, so I encourage all members to review the bylaws and attend the AGM. If you are interested in any position, kindly contact the undersigned before the AGM. The election procedures are also outlined in the bylaws.

First Collective Agreement Ratified at University of Ontario Institute Of Technology (UOIT)
TAs & RAs members at University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) in Oshawa ratified their first Collective Agreement on Wednesday April 21st, 2010.
This collective agreement includes -
- a clear system for assigning TAships and Raships
- guarantee that full TAships and RAships will be 280 hours over two semesters
- clear assignment of duties and hours. No more unmanageable workloads, no more working for free (TAF and RAF forms, Appendix "C").
- limits to how many hours you can be asked to work in a day, a week or a semester
- many types of leave, including sick leave, bereavement leave and pregnancy/paternal leave
- overtime pay if you have to work on a statutory holiday, or any Saturday or Sunday attached to a statutory holiday (article 19)
- job and pay protection for non-student teaching assistants who have worked at UOIT for several semesters (article 12 and Appendix "A")
- inclusion in the Employer's policies on intellectual property rights and academic freedom (article 14).
- freedom from all discrimination and harassment (article 20).
Health and safety protections (article 21) - access to .union representation in the workplace, throughout the grievance procedure, and at the joint union-management committee.
The Collective agreement has an expiry date of August 31,2013 (3 year + 4 month agreement).

Ratification Vote Meeting Announcement

are pleased to advise that a tentative agreement was reached with the employer, UOIT, on Wednesday, March 10, 2010. The bargaining team is recommending acceptance of the Tentative Agreement by the membership.
All TAs & RAs employed by UOIT are automatically members of Local 555.

Members of the Bargaining Team will be in attendance to respond to questions prior to the vote being taken.

Please ensure that you bring your UOIT ID card and your PSAC membership card. Members who have not yet received their PSAC union cards will be able to pick them up at the meeting. This will be your only opportunity to vote on the tentative agreement.

Tentative Agreement Reached at University of Ontario Institute Of Technology (UOIT)
TAs & RAs at University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) in Oshawa reached a tentative first Collective Agreement today. Significant gains for our members were made. Agreement will be ratified on April 21st. Full details will follow.

Your UOIT TA/RA Bargaining Team met with the employer on February 8 & 9th to begin the process to negotiate your first Collective Agreement. The sessions were productive and we are well placed to continue in that vein for the next set of dates. The team next meets with the employer on March 8, 9 & 10th.
During the first two days of bargaining, members were invited to stop by the local information table in the UA building to pick up either a PSAC fleece toque or ball cap and if they had not already received it in the mail, their PSAC membership card.
Business was brisk at the table including the signing of new RAs & TAs .
