1. Quality Public Services (60 mins.)

Engages participants in a discussion about
- the vital role of public services in our communities
- the “how” and “why” they are under attack
- establishing our roles as activists in defending quality public services
2. Taxes (45-60 mins.)

Engages participants in a conversation about
- who really benefits from tax cuts
- the benefits of taxes, yes, you read that correctly!
- how we can participate in the public debate on taxes
3. Lobbying (60 mins)

Participants will discuss lobbying for change and/or support and review the 5 W’s of lobbying and the 6 practical tips for lobbying elected officials.
4. Contracting Out ( 60 mins)

Participants will
- link Defending Quality Public Services (DQPS) with collective bargaining strategies
- discuss the value of working to achieve gains in collective agreement language related to contracting out in order to improve working conditions and public service delivery
- work on ideas for supporting union bargaining demands about contracting out and promoting quality public services
5. Contracting Out (120 mins.)

Participants will:
- identify the various ways that contracting out happens
- explore examples of contracted out work
- discuss and analyze the effects of contracting out
- develop push back strategies against further contracting out
