RSI Awareness Day

RSI Awareness Day - February 28

The incidence of work-related repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) has reached epidemic proportions. According to the Ontario Workplace and Insurance Board (WSIB) statistics, RSI account for more than 50 % of all reported injuries. Workers in all sector of the economy are developing these disorders. Equally troubling, the numbers of workers developing RSI show no sign of declining. Beyond the numbers are the incalculable human and social costs of these painful, disabling injuries.

Injured workers, trade unionists and activists who share a common goal of eliminating RSIs agree ergonomic regulations and their enforcement must be part of any successful prevention strategy. Without them, workers, their families and their communities will continue to suffer.

The Canadian Labour Congress calls on all levels of government to take the issue of Repetitive Strain Injury more seriously. Ergonomic regulations to protect Canadian workers from coast to-coast-to-coast are long over due, as is proper enforcement of regulations where they currently exist.
