Thunder Bay - Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service (NAPS) Local 00401 have ratified their new collective agreement by an overwhelming majority on October 14, 2016. The new collective agreement will be in effect until December 31, 2018.
“We acknowledge the provincial and federal governments for providing additional resources to be able to reach this agreement,” says Sharon DeSousa, PSAC Ontario Regional Executive Vice-President. “And it is our hope that both levels of government will continue to show leadership during the next round of funding negotiations in 2018, by creating a stable and adequate funding model for First Nations policing.”
Some of the highlights of the new agreement include:
- A commitment to provide communications for officers in communities within three months of ratification;
- A commitment from the employer to reduce single officer assignment in the interest of officers’ safety and First Nation community safety by 2018;
- A commitment to maintain current scheduling for officers that provides work life balance;
- A commitment to increase the current staff compliment by a minimum of 12 officers by January 2017; and
- Binding arbitration for all future negotiations.
