Boycott of Carnival Cruises

Greetings Sisters and Brothers,

We are asking that you join a boycott of Carnival Cruises to protest the role of Carnival's chief executive in a six-month labour dispute in Toronto.

The United Steelworkers (USW), which represents striking employees at the Crown Holdings' Toronto plant, has launched a campaign to expose members of Crown's board of directors and hold them accountable for the company's behaviour.

Carnival CEO Arnold Donald is a key board member of Crown Holdings, which while making soaring profits, forced members of the United Steelworkers on strike in September by demanding major concessions, including permanent wage cuts for new and younger workers up to 42 percent.

For more information about the campaign, as well as videos and other materials, see www.takebacksnomore.ca.

To date the boycott has been endorsed by the Ontario Federation of Labour, the Congress of Union Retirees in Canada (CURC), Toronto and York Region Labour Council and many unions.

Carnival Corporation is the world's largest cruise company and operates ships under the Carnival, Princess, Holland America, Cunard, Aida, Ibero, P&O, Seabourn and Costa brands. All brands are covered under the boycott.

In addition to boycotting the cruise company, please send letters via an online campaign, at www.usw.ca/labourstart. To date, nearly 7,000 letters have been sent.

In Solidarity,

Sharon DeSousa,
PSAC Regional Executive Vice-President - Ontario
